Supporting Children & Young People

The Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018 recognises that domestic abuse is not only physical but can also include psychological harm, coercive control and emotional abuse. The law recognises the serious impact that domestic abuse can have on children who experienced or are exposed to it within their home.

Children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse need emotional and practical support. Hemat Gryffe Women’s Aid have a specialised team dedicated to supporting children and young people who experince domestic abuse, forced marrige and honour based abuse. Our staff have expertise in supporting children and young people from minority ethnic backgrounds and understand the cultural sensitivities and barriers that children and young people face. Children's workers provide support at a safe place.

We are committed to helping children and young people feel heard, safe and supported as they recover from the impact of domestic abuse.

Our services include support in refuge; follow on services and outreach support.

School based support is provided in primary and secondary schools for children and young people who are dealing with the emotional and psychological impact of domestic abuse.
