Supporting Children and Young People

If you are domestically abused then do not worry we are here to help you. You may want to speak to someone about what is going on at home.  You may have witnessed domestic violence at home or have been abused and because of that you may be feeling very lonely, scared and confused.  It is important to realise that you are not alone and that there are many people who are willing to listen to you and who understand how you may be feeling.

It is important to talk to someone about how you are feeling. Hemat Gryffe Womens Aid has a confidential on call service for children and young people which will enable you to talk to a children and young people’s worker about what is going on at home. You will be listened to and supported by us. You can do this in complete confidence and anonymously and no action will be taken unless you want it to be taken.

For many years Hemat Gryffe Womans Aid has worked with children and young people who have lived with domestic violence in their homes. Many of them have shared their feelings and experiences with us, and perhaps through sharing them with you, you may find comfort and realise that you are not on your own.

A Childs impression of the refuge

“I thought I was going on holiday with my mum, my sisters and brother when I came to the Willowbank Street office.  I was confused as to what was happening, where I  was..  My mum said that we are going to stay here for a few days.  But when I reached the refuge I was upset of leaving home, everything and everybody I knew behind.  But now I am happy and I have made new friends.  We have fun in the playroom and with the play workers.  She takes me out to swimming and the parks.  My family feel safe and secure here.  We get great help from all the workers.  I can sleep well at night without shouting and fear.”

We provide support to children and young people through a programme of various activities designed to meet the individual needs of children and young people accessing the service for example:
